Relaunching the Thebaid Website

You long-time subscribers and fellow pilgrims may have noticed some extensive changes to this website lately. Gone are the subdued B&W images in the banner, replaced now with color photographs from the book. Gone also are the extensive archives of the Thebaid Project and Pilgrimage, as well as the photo galleries.

Simply put, the website had become too full, even unwieldy for the launch of the book; it was time for a leaner, more focused approach. I’m still adding a few items to this new design, and will continue with this blog, but it’s pretty much in its new form.

Here’s how the site is organized now, and what you can look forward to in the coming weeks and months:

  • The Home, or Front page is now the new ‘Welcome to the Pilgrimage’ feature, presenting The North American Thebaid Book;
  • The Blog now resides on a separate page, and features updates on the book, articles and news of interest about Orthodox monasteries in America, and related topics;
  • The new ‘About the Book’ section presents highlights of the Thebaid Pilgrimage Project, adapted from posts dating back almost a decade, which tell the story of how this unique book came to be;
  • Although the photo galleries are gone, I will be posting occasional images in the Blog and perhaps elsewhere.
  • As before, the right hand column (if you’re viewing on a desktop, laptop or tablet; smaller mobile screens place these ‘extra’ panels below the main page contents) will feature the upcoming Thebaid schedule, as well as links to subscribe and order the book, plus special features.

Also of interest today is this announcement and review of the book from OrthoChristian.com, the multi-language Orthodox publishing site of Sretensky Monastery in Moscow, who also covered the launch of the Thebaid Photographic Pilgrimage back in 2016. I thank them for their continued coverage of the project!

Wishing you a good Holy Week and a most radiant Pascha!

    Dear Zosimas

    I am sure that I pre-ordered a copy of the North American Thebaid from your site some time ago, and also qualified to be sent one of the limited edition prints from the book. Can you please advise when I can expect to receive them.

    Thank you

    1. Dear Father Abbot Joachim – You are correct, and most certainly did preorder the Limited Edition Book and Print. It is my understanding that St Tikhon’s Monastery Press began international order fulfillment for the Thebaid Book 2-3 weeks ago, through their new UK distributor. The STMP managing editor and I personally discussed your order back in March, as it was our first (and so far only) Australia destination, so I know it was flagged on his list of international shipments. I am heading to church now, but will begin looking into it tomorrow (Monday) morning. Please watch for an email from me later tomorrow. Sincere thanks again for your support and prayers for the Thebaid project, with prayers for a fruitful Holy Week and radiant Pascha. – in Christ, zosimas

        Dear Zosimas Thank you for your kind reply. I have already received one copy of the book from St Tihkons.  I presumed this was  in response to a separate order I placed with St Tihkon’s Press a few weeks ago when news of the books availability was first announced.  This copy is meant as a gift. Thank you for letting me know to still expect the copy I pre-ordered together with the photograph print, which is destined for the Skete’s library.  The book is splendid in all ways.. Thank you for the time, patience and great effort you put into producing such a worthy album of contemporary monastic life.  Indeed what a great work of the Lord to have blessed the establishment of over 100 Orthodox monasteries in North America. In Christ Father Joachim

    Dear Zosimas,

    I have been wanting to thank you for my wonderful surprise in the mail! It was more beautiful than what I expected! Everything from the packaging, the beautiful photography and stories. It was well worth the wait! We gave one to our priest as a gift as well! Thank you for your hard work and efforts! God bless you!

    Dear friend in Christ,
    When you emailed me before Great Week about my current postal address, I replied that it had indeed changed from Renfrew in Scotland to
    0/1 40 Merryland Street
    Glasgow G51 2QD
    United Kingdom

    I have been seeing glowing reviews and am delighted with the book’s success. I hope that my copy
    will arrive soon.

    1. Alethos Anesti, Sister Helena! I would have thought your copy would have arrived already! I heard from another supporter in Ireland who received his. Watch for an email from me. I will copy you on my email to St Tikhon’s Press, who were handling the international distribution. Not sure if they have tracking info (I certainly hope they do!), but I do know they took all the UK and European orders to their new distributor in the UK to fulfill my preorders from there. And I personally confirmed with them your correct address as we were reviewing the preorder distribution.
